Delineavit focuses on the life and memories of Shakespeare’s wife, Anne Hathaway. In an unusual collaboration between costume designer and director, the costume inspired much of the script. Anne Hathaway’s dress is a patchwork of drawings and textile printing on unbleached calico; wrapped around her waist is a long strip of fabric covered with the words of Shakespeare’s sonnet 116. The dress illustrates Shakespeare’s life and includes paintings or drawings of Shakespeare, Anne Hathaway, the Earl of Southampton, the Globe Theatre, Elizabethan textile designs and Shakespeare’s last will and testament. It symbolises the fate of Anne Hathaway, imprisoned by the words and life of her famous husband.
